Wood Preservation Methods
The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. In other words, the term wood science can also be known as wood technology. Wood is treated as a material in direct comparison with other products. Materials properties, ease of it being worked on and its value are among the few properties which are compared against those of wood and other materials. The utilization of technology gives wood an upper hand in most of this comparison. Some of these advantages include wood being a versatile material that can be used in a wide range of products. There are a few disadvantages of this method as a mode of wood preservation. It is a highly corrosive chemical that affects most metals that are used together with the wooden products. The species of the wood and the application of the wood will determine how many chemicals will be used on the wood. The concentration level of the chemical will be different for two pieces of wood where one is used above ground and the other close to a water body.
The use of copper metal is another method of wood treatment that is fast being accepted. This method, unlike the ACQ, is friendly to the metal fasteners and its gaining popularity very fast. This process is what in other words called the micronized copper wood preservative. A high-pressure liquid that has the copper metal mixed in it is driven into the wood. In other copper-based preservation methods copper is dissolved in chemicals while in this method copper is driven into the wood as a metal. This process is highly effective and the wood properties and heightened. The time the wood products treated using this method last is longer other types of treatment.
The micronized copper preservative has proven to be highly effective in protecting the wood against fungal decay and termites. It is not corrosive to metals used in together with the product. Extensive research over a period of 10 years has proven the effectiveness of this science as one of the best wood preservation methods.
